thank you, Hampton Roads

Four years ago, after MAGA spent $6 million attacking me, I lost re-election in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.
I could have walked away from public service. Plenty of people would have understood.
But I was raised to believe that the worst outcome isn’t losing the fight; it’s going down with no fight at all.
I swore an oath at 17 when I walked into the Naval Academy, and again every time I took my seat in Congress. Losing an election didn’t release me from it.
I looked at the country my daughter is going to inherit. I looked at Hampton Roads families working harder every year just to stay afloat. And I decided I didn’t spend the better part of two decades on combatant ships to watch the storm roll in from the pier.
So I got back on deck.
We put up one hell of a fight, and it paid off. The people of Hampton Roads voted to send me back to Congress.
This win belongs to every donor, volunteer, staffer, and voter who refused to give up on this district. You knocked doors in the rain, made calls after long workdays, and chipped in when it would have been easier to sit this one out. That’s what carried us across the finish line.
We didn’t get here easily. MAGA poured more than $8 million into this race to keep VA-02 under Republican control. We were outspent and underestimated.
We didn’t do it alone. Democrats needed to flip three seats to take back the House. We exceeded that by a mile, and VA-02 is part of the reason why. For the first time in two years, there will be a serious check on the most corrupt administration in American history. Thanks to your support, we now have the power to defend our Constitution and our core American values.
There’s a lot of work ahead. We need to make healthcare affordable, lower costs for families, combat corruption at the highest levels, do right by our men and women in uniform, and protect Medicare and Social Security. I’ll keep fighting for the things that matter most right here at home, from the Chesapeake Bay to the military families who call Hampton Roads home.
I’ll work every single day to earn the trust you’ve placed in me. You’ll hear from me again soon.
With gratitude,
Congresswoman-elect Elaine Luria
P.S. My campaign invested every last penny we had (and then some) to win this fight. Now, I need to make sure every bill is paid and every obligation is met. Will you chip in $15 today before we officially close out this campaign?
